In preparation for the future confrontation, Hiro does his research on the respected businessman, husband, and father – Arthur Petrelli, following him in the days before he supposedly died; his intention is to find out why Petrelli created the rival company Pinehearst, and clout at Angela. Sylar is given a chance at redemption, if only Elle and H.R.G. had shied away from their horrific assignment. Company man Thompson takes Meredith under his wing as she witnesses her new life go to the dogs subsequent to the entrance of her bad-tempered brother.

Nathan and Tracy must brawl with a very different, atrocious Suresh to free not only themselves, but Maya as well as the other “test subjects”. Elle shows up with a surprise for Claire and the rest of her family. Angela attempts to get Sylar to rescue his brother, after being alerted of Peter’s merciless take down by Pinehearst rivals. It’s kill or be killed when it comes to Matt, after he refuses to join the villains; Daphne is set on the job. Though humbled by the African precog’s abilities, Hiro finds himself still doubting Usutu’s guidance on how to successfully beat his gathering opposition.
Daphne and Knox are awed by Hiro’s brutality and bring him, along with some other folks, into the Pinehearst fold; they then give him an assignment. Peter is permanently changed by the unbelievable get-together he has in Pinehearst, while in search of answers about the fresh dealings surrounding Angela and the Company. Claire and Sandra start their endeavor to liberate Meredith from the clutches of a fugitive villain, Doyle, who can control the mental and physical aspects of others. Nathan takes Tracy to Suresh, in hopes that perhaps he can shed some light on the mysterious cause of their powers.
Oblivious to the fact that others are closing in, and equipped only with H.R.G.’s old records and a taser, Claire tries to take down Stephen Canfield, a Level 5 fugitive with the power to create black holes. Peter dourly realizes just how profoundly the incident has altered him when he returns from the death-and-destruction-filled future. Ando is shocked when Hiro attempts to befriend Daphne and her new colleague, Knox, after their venture with Adam Monroe got them no closer to the formula. Later, Maya and others are put into a delicate situation when Suresh becomes insistent to fix errors in his research. Nathan is urged by Linderman to stay close to Tracy, as they could complete many great things together. Matt has his idea of “happily ever after” decimated in Africa.
After seeing a dangerous future in which almost everyone possesses abilities, Peter takes a huge risk to prevent the world-crumbling end. Will taking on this dark and unmanageable ability really save the world, or will it destroy him and everything he has come to love first? Following the theft of Angela’s half of the formula, Hiro and Ando must talk to Adam Monroe, the man who has unsurpassed knowledge of these rogues, in order to unearth the identity of the villain that Daphne worked for. H.R.G. vows to rid himself of his new colleague after the slaughter fest at the bank. Claire and her determination to be a hero hit the pavement in pursuit of one of the villains out of H.R.G.’s old records. Impulse swallows Suresh. Molly and Linderman come back in shocking conditions. Two Heroes find themselves in the blossom of a new romance.
When Knox, Flint, Jesse, and The German, four powerful and callus villains, storm into a bank and start taking hostages, Angela sends H.R.G. and his startling, newly empowered colleague after them. Peter has to find what he has lost on his path in order to keep a catastrophic future from happening. Hiro and Ando manage to track Daphne, as well as part of the formula, to Germany; unfortunately, they also manage to attract the attention of The Haitian. Tracy Strauss searches for answers about Niki abroad after being dismayed by her own abilities. A very flustered Claire wants to learn how to fight, and goes to Meredith for help. As the romance between Maya and Suresh intensifies, he finds himself ill-equipped when his experimentations produce some very interesting results.
Peter is confronted by Angela; Sylar begins attacking the Company’s central facility; Clair is enlightened about her abilities; during a fight with Elle, a band of deadly criminals break out; Daphne heads to Paris and is tailed by Hiro and Ando; Matt turns to a guide for help; and Suresh finds himself pleased with the most recent happenings in his life.
Nathan’s would-be killer is exposed. Meanwhile, Sylar makes plans to stop in on Claire; Suresh discovers a very important advancement; and Hiro and Ando protect a dodgy family secret while worrying over the drab future concerning a questionable woman.
Believing that a virus will kill 93% of the world’s inhabitants in the future, Peter and his new friend make their way to Primatech Paper in Texas to destroy it. Niki has to break some bad news to Micah. Monica must fix what is done by putting her powers to the test. Hiro tracks down his father’s killer. Using his mental abilities, Matt tracks down the final person in the Company picture. Nathan discovers that his brother is still alive. Just outside of New York, Maya is forced to choose; Alejandro or Sylar?
H.R.G. is certain that the Company will soon be knocking on their door, and prepares the family to move, but Claire has her own ideas. After returning to the present and learning of his father’s death, a grieving Hiro thrusts himself into the past only to make a shocking personal discovery. Suresh makes a life-changing decision after his initial encounter with Elle. With his mental abilities expanding, Matt struggles with his powers. While travelling with Sylar, Maya and Alejandro find their relationship tested. Peter finds someone who has the potential to unlock his past.
